Barbara Beltrame, the vice president for internationalization of Confidustria, in a series of statements released in recent days has proposed a series of ideas to encourage the resumption of trade, including online, in times of pandemic.
Beltrame has recognized that by now the digital e-commerce platforms represent the new primary sales channels for users, who are forced to stay at home. Unfortunately, however, on this front “Italy is far behind the European countries, although it has a high potential“, and for this very reason, according to the manager, it is necessary”focus on e-commerce and work on a European e-commerce platform that can counteract the American and Asian giants“.
Confindustria’s proposal is basically create an Amazon at European level, able to compete with Jeff Bezos’ American platform, but also with Aliexpress, which is very popular especially in China. This need has become even more evident in a time of a pandemic.
The need for a change of pace at European level, according to Beltrame, is represented by the fact that “only the continental dimension can hold its own against these giants and, like Confindustria, we are trying to work in this direction“.
It is not the first time that we talk about the possibility of creating a European or Italian counterpart of big techs.
