The Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Health Dr Tony Holohan said that the National Public Health Emergency Team is looking at how Covid-19 restrictions have been eased in schools and children’s centers in other European countries.

Dr Holohan pointed out that there was generally no significant increase in the number of cases of the disease in the countries where restrictions were eased and this was encouraging.

However, another member of the Emergency Team Professor Philip Nolan said that care must be taken to alleviate social restrictions in this country.

Education Minister Joe McHugh said last night that he would have no idea that children would be going to school half the time in September, a measure that will be needed if the two-meter subtraction instruction from others is still in force.

Minister McHugh said that the education of young people cannot be hindered and he has not yet surrendered that children will not be able to return to school full time in the Autumn.
