The pandemic brought us confinement, social distancing measures, masks, hydroalcoholic gel and video calls, as a way to prevent infections, especially with our elders, who are the ones who are suffering the most from the impact of the coronavirus. Obviously, this new reality has led us to use mobile screens as a point of social contact, which has invited some companies to be more lax with paid subscriptions and usage limitations. Google Meet is one of them, in addition to the professional commitment of those from Mountain View and since last year it has been chaining completely free periods for those users who do not have professional or educational accounts related to Workspace. Without them, on paper, we could not make video calls of more than 60 minutes, although that limit has not been applied for some months. New extension until … The fact is that yesterday the last of the free extensions that Google had announced at the end of last year expired and just a few hours before the end of that period, on March 31, the Americans again extended that time of free use of Meet, which will now run until June, we understand that also at the end, that is, another three months. Although Google has not published an exact day, we must take that it will be the 30th when this new period of free use ends and that it empowers us to make video calls of more than 24 hours. We do not know if you will be one of the users capable of maintaining such a long contact but, if so, that you know that Google Meet is your alternative since the competition has been closing these premium functions to free users for a few months. Zoom, for example, is one of the apps that have benefited the most from this period of pandemic and video calls, but it closed the tap last year and currently does not allow conferences and meetings of more than 40 minutes. A limit that we can unlock with any of the payment plans they have available and that contrasts with Google’s offer around which it is already their main bet for video calls within the professional field. It must be said that Google Meet has undergone a good number of changes in recent months that have substantially improved its functions: from the presence of a virtual whiteboard, to noise cancellation filters, new funds and integration with Gmail to schedule. and initiating video calls is much easier when we work as a team.
