Many users, when they buy a car, mess around with it to get the maximum performance imaginable, even if it is at the cost of sacrificing many of the comforts it brings. And the same has happened with the owner of a Tesla Model X, which preferred the laurels of glory to keep as is the original factory performance of his spectacular SUV.
Today we bring you what happened at an event that took place in Florida, in the Palm Beach International Raceway where several owners of these Tesla Model Xs have gathered to try to set new speed marks in the quarter mile test. That is, the one that has a range of about 250 meters and that cars develop in a straight line by pressing the accelerator pedal fully.
The oldest trick in the world
He Model X winner was the one you have in the opening image, with a striking chrome coating, that he achieved the feat of lowering the time in that quarter of a mile below 11 seconds, which seemed until then one of the psychological barriers that would take to break, at least with the models that are currently on the market.
And if it has been achieved, it is because its owner has resorted to one of the oldest tricks in the world, the one that involves releasing ballast and remove from the interior of the car any element that does not specifically serve to achieve that record in the test. So said and done: You have removed all the seats except the driver’s seat, you have removed all the panels and coatings that make up the interior of the Tesla Model X (it hurts to read it) as well as other areas such as the cargo area under the front hood.
Remove all that weight allowed him to win in acceleration which is exactly what he was looking for, to set the best time in the test in a straight line and, in addition, to achieve a really low battery consumption ratio since the vehicle needed much less power to move a car that weighed considerably less. The thing is that when crossing the finish line, the owner of this Model X managed to score 10.9121 seconds.
You have in the video above the moment in which that Model X achieves its objective of placing the quarter mile test time below 11 seconds, which is not bad and makes it one of the fastest SUVs in the world … with a trick.
