It’s almost hard to believe, but It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has now aired a whopping fourteen seasons, which means it has tied with ‘50s sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest-running ever.

Season 14 is now available to watch in both the UK and US, but that means it’s officially time for the long wait for season 15 – if it’s even coming. Here’s what we know so far.

Has it been renewed for season 15?

So far, no. But don’t lose hope. FX chairman John Landgraf has said that “We will absolutely make more seasons” of the show, referencing a possible 15th or 16th, suggesting that the decision will ultimately come down to the core creative team – Howerton, McElhenney, and Day – as to whether they want to make more or not.

Meanwhile McElhenney has said they’ll “keep doing it forever,” amid fears that his and Day’s new Apple TV+ show would take away from their Sunny time.

“It takes us about five months to make a season of Sunny. We have that period of our lives carved. We’re going to keep doing it forever if people keep watching,” he said.

Let’s hope they do, and blow Ozzie and Harriet out of the water.

How to watch season 15 live outside the US

Despite its success, It’s Always Sunny still doesn’t have a day-and-date broadcaster in the UK. Netflix UK has all of the show’s previous seasons, but new material doesn’t hit the service for months after the US air date – so whenever season 15 airs in the US, there’ll then be a long wait for it to come to the UK.

If you can’t wait that long, there are legal ways to watch it online, but it won’t be free. Since FXX is a cable channel it isn’t free-to-watch even in the US. If you’re based outside the US then you probably don’t have a US cable subscription, but luckily there are online alternatives.

If you subscribe to any of PlayStation Vue, YouTube TV or Hulu with Live TV you’ll be able to stream the full season. None of those are free, but if you watch a lot of US TV they might be worth it, as they each give you access to loads of channels.

You won’t be able to just sign up from the UK or elsewhere though – you’ll need to both sign up and watch through a VPN, which masks your IP address, letting you appear to be in the US. There are loads out there – check out our streaming VPN ranking for a selection – but our current recommendation is NordVPN.

If you’re not sure what to do next, we have a dedicated guide to watching Hulu from the UK which will walk you through signing up to the service. Most of the same steps should apply for PlayStation Vue, YouTube TV, or other similar services.

Watch the season 14 trailer

We don’t have a look at season 15 yet, but if you’re still catching up there’s always this look at the 14th series of the show. It’s a slickly cut look at what to expect this year: the zoo, laser tag, a noir episode, and a melon in a safe. Standard Sunny.

Season 15 guest stars

All of the core five stars were back in season 4 – Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, and of course Danny DeVito – along the usual array of recurring characters.

There were also some big guest stars this year, with at least one jawdropper: ‘80s action star Dolph Lundgren features in one episode, playing Johnny Thundergun, in a callback to season 11’s ‘Thunder Gun Express’ episode.

No word yet on who might appear in season 15, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
