It is not yet known whether the Covid-19 restrictions will allow people to tour the Great Blasket this year.

According to the Government’s plan, trips to the islands will be allowed from 10 August but the Blasket Boaters say it will be very challenging to implement social separation on the ferries.

As they land on the Great Blasket, visitors are required to transfer from the ferry to small boats.

Sibéal Ní Lúing from the Blasket Boaters said that the restrictions will vary depending on the length of one or two meters.

Boaters are concerned about the reduction in the number of passengers allowed in the boats during severely curtailed seasons. It may be difficult to cover the cost of the service.

The Blasket Center, Dún Chaoin

The Blasket Center in Dún Chaoin plans to reopen on 20 July. Center manager Lorcán Ó Cinnéide said the building is currently undergoing work to adapt to the constraints.

The Kenyan said that visitor numbers will be very much back than the usual 50,000 visitors, but that every effort was being made to provide a pleasant holiday for the callers.
