As happened in 2013, both the new generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles have reached the market with just a week of difference. Today it is the turn of PlayStation 5, which lands in Spanish stores with two identical models Except for a small element that is not present in one of the editions: the disc reader. Although when we say that it is already on sale, we are not being entirely precise because in the first weeks (Sony dixit) getting one of these machines is going to be a complicated task.
Sony, like Microsoft, chooses to inject brute force into the new models, which embrace sophisticated technologies such as screen resolutions, which go up to 8K, ray-tracing and, of course, an unprecedented use in previous generations of the speed offered by the new solid state storage units (SSD), which will shorten load times in many of the games of this next-gen .
Huge size and new gamepad
It has been one of the biggest objects of criticism towards Sony in recent times, the design and the enormous size of the console, which has little accommodation on television tables and bookshelves. Even so, they are details that depend on our philias and phobias and not so much on their usefulness, which has always been looking for the best way to cool a machine that reaches high temperatures when it starts up.
Be that as it may, this new PS5 hits stores with 3.5GHz octa-core AMD Zen 2 processor, graphics power of 10.28 TFLOPs, a GPU with RDNA 2 architecture, 16GB of 256-bit GDDR6 RAM and an 825GB SSD internal storage unit. Obviously we will also have a UHD (4K) Blu-ray reader, but only in the most expensive model, the 499.99 euros. For the Digital Edition, that optical drive will disappear, which will bring its buyers a significant saving of 100 euros: 399.99.
Of course, where we will have great news is in the console control. A DualSense that leaves behind the DualShock denomination of the latest consoles and in which Sony promises that it has completely transformed the user experience, with a new vibration system capable of transmitting the smallest detail of what happens on the screen. We’ll see, anyway, if the studios really exploit it.
On paper, PS5 arrives with a lower graphic power than in the case of Xbox Series X But, as always happens in these cases, those who will decide the outcome of the battle of this generation will not be so much the machines as the video games that reach each one, their exclusives and that important detail that is the social factor: Would you buy a console that not all your friends have? This “beehive” effect has been won by Sony (at least in Spain) for a long time and it will be difficult for the balance in this new generation to opt for Microsoft and its Xbox.
